Tulsi – Holy basil the “Elixir of life”

Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) is commonly known as holy basil. It is a perennial plant found in the  Indian subcontinent that has green or purple ovate leaves and purple flowers. There are three subtypes of this plant a) Ram tulsi, 2) Krishna tulsi, and 3) Vana Tulsi (wild/forest variety). All three varieties have been used for thousands of years in religious, spiritual, and Ayurvedic traditions of Hinduism.
